The Process

All player grading at Scarborough Netball Club is conducted by our Grading Committee on behalf of the Club. This committee includes the Competition Coordinator and at least two experienced graders, who may be non-playing club members or independent evaluators.

Grading decisions are based on two key components:

Coach Reports

At the end of each season, coaches complete a written evaluation for every player. These reports include feedback on:

  • Netball skills and game sense

  • Attendance at training and matches

  • Teamwork and coachability

  • Attitude and overall contribution

Practical Grading Sessions

Players are observed in action during grading sessions by the full committee. These sessions may include:

  • Netball-specific skill drills

  • Full-court gameplay and Round Robins

  • Multiple sessions to ensure all players are fairly assessed

We aim to ensure every player is placed in a team where they can grow, compete, and enjoy their season.

Announcements

Once the grading process is complete and teams have been finalised by the Grading Committee, all players will be notified of their team placement.

Team lists are typically released within one (1) week of the final practical grading session.

We understand how eager everyone is to find out where they’ve been placed, and we do our best to communicate this as quickly and fairly as possible.

Friends

We understand that playing with friends can make the season even more enjoyable! At SNC, we do our best to accommodate friend requests, but they must meet the following criteria:

  • Only one request per player

  • Requests must be mutual (both players must name each other)

  • Requests must be submitted in writing at least two (2) weeks before grading begins

Please send all requests via email to the Club or include them during your registration.

Friend requests will only be considered if both players are of a similar playing ability. The final decision rests with the Grading Committee and will always prioritise fair and balanced team formation.

Appeals

If a player wishes to appeal their team placement, they may do so in writing within one (1) week of the team announcements.

Appeals must be submitted via email to:
snc@snc.org.au

All appeals will be reviewed by the Grading Committee. Please note:

  • Appeals must clearly outline the reason for the request.

  • The Grading Committee will carefully assess all relevant information.

  • All grading decisions are final. There is no option for a second appeal.

We appreciate your understanding and support in ensuring a fair and consistent grading process for all players.

Teams

At SNC, we grade all players into teams each season to ensure fairness, development, and enjoyment for everyone.

Netball is a graded, competitive sport. Placing players with others of similar ability gives each team the best chance of success and supports all players to:

  • Enjoy their season

  • Develop their skills

  • Compete at the right level

Stronger players thrive in faster-paced games.
Developing players build confidence and improve when challenged appropriately.

When players are placed above their current ability, it can impact self-esteem and growth. Our grading process is designed to support every player to shine!
